Welcome to Jackal Marine, a leading provider of marine construction and logistics solutions. With over 18 years of experience in the marine industry, we specialize in delivering reliable, high-quality services that range from custom vessel hire to complex marine construction and maintenance projects. As a company founded by Jack Benson and Alex Julicher, we bring decades of hands-on expertise to every project we undertake.

Our Story

  • Founded in 2016 as Darwin Harbour Marine Services, Jackal Marine has grown rapidly in both capability and scope. What started as a small venture focused on dry leasing vessels quickly expanded into a company that now provides comprehensive marine services, including wet hire, marine construction and logistics support.

  • 2021, our partnership with Duratec marked a significant milestone, allowing us to expand into marine construction at the Larrakeyah Navy Base.

  • 2024, Jackal Marine was awarded a Northern Territory Government Tender to Design, Construct and install 30 navigation aid pylons at 2 separate locations of Buffalo Creek and McArthur River.

  • 2025 Jackal Marine were subcontracted by Sydney Marine Construction to man their 58m construction barge, to install and assemble Darwin’s latest ferry terminal at Mandorah.

Jack Benson

Jack’s journey in the marine industry spans nearly two decades.  It started with a strong focus on the oil, gas, and construction sectors. Then shifted to various senior management roles, overseeing operations, finances, and maintenance. Jack’s leadership has been integral in building Darwin Harbour Marine Services into a successful company, eventually evolving into Jackal Marine in 2023. Jack's leadership is grounded in his hands-on experience in vessel operations and management. He has a proven track record in building strong partnerships with clients and industry leaders, driving successful outcomes in both marine construction and logistics. Jack’s deep understanding of the industry allows him to strategically lead Jackal Marine in delivering exceptional services tailored to client needs.

Alex Julicher

As the co-founder of Jackal Marine and with over 30 years of diverse experience in the maritime and construction sectors, Alex is the cornerstone of Jackal Marine’s operations. Starting his career as a carpenter and then abalone diver and transitioning into marine construction, Alex brings a wealth of knowledge from his extensive career as a Master 5 Skipper and Carpenter. His past roles have seen him managing projects for companies such as Bhagwan Marine, where he has overseen everything from marine asset management to environmental and safety compliance.

Projects

Navigation Aid, Design, Construct and Installation

Jackal Marine were awarded a Northern Territory Government tender to Design, Construct and install 30 Navigation Pylons. They were installed in two separate remote locations of Buffalo Creek and McArthur River. Jackal Marine completed this project on time and to budget in early 2025.

Mandorah Marine Facility

Jackal Marine were contracted by Sydney Marine Construction to man their 55m crane barge at Mandorah. Our initial scope was to install and assemble the Bellingham Marine designed and fabricated floating pontoon and access walkways. Before the end of project Jackal Marine were requested to assist SMC with the driving and assembly of 9 Navigation pylons.

NCIS 5 Major Works at Coonawarra Navy Base

Jackal Marine and Duratec have been working together since 2022, when Jackal Marine was still DHMS. the relationship started on the NCIS 5 early works project and continued on into the major works project. Jackal Marine with its versatile fleet and skilled workforce has assisted with under wharf access, form work and scaffold removal and repositioning to complete stair way remove and dispose.

Installation of day Mooring in Darwin Harbour

The MV George was utilized to install a day mooring in Darwin harbour, this mooring consisted of a 400Kg anchor - 22mm stud link ground chain - 950Kg clump weight - 22mm stud link riser. The mooring is certified to take vessels up to 20m long, with a displacement of up to 132T.

Multi User Barge Ramp Maintenance

Jackal Marine were contracted by Land Development Corporation to complete an upgrade of their pylon fender mounting clamps from galvanized steel to stainless steel clamps. During this process there were several paint corrosion repairs made to the main pylons. Jackal also preformed the 2 yearly, inspect, test and battery replacement on their 6 aids to navigation.

AMSA Fixed Navigation aid Maintenance

Jackal Marine were contracted to Land and Sea to provide their technicians with logistical access to navigation aids in the greater Darwin region.
